HISTORY

Williamsburg Grange was established on Nov 1, 1900 with 50 members present. Some of the names on that list may be recognizable to you! Adams, Barrus, Black, Damon, Graves, Hemenway, Loomis, Nash, Shumway, and Warner to name a few! After a short stint at the United Workman's Hall (across from the church) and a longer stint at the Temperance Hall (current site of Florence Bank), we settled into the old school building (current location of the Grange Hall) in the mid 1920s. In 1950, a major overhaul of the old school building created the building that you now see. In 1951, the Grange established the first incarnation of the Veteran's War Memorial. The big maple tree still residing on the NE corner of the park was planted by 2nd generation member Lewis Black from his own tree nursery and rumor has it that the flooring of our main hall was locally sourced and processed. If you know about that story, we'd love to hear more.
The Grange has been a community hub in Williamsburg for 125 years!
